Look closely at the riot of Romanesque sculptures on St Mary’s Church, Iffley with stone carvers Alex Wenham and Richard Martin. They will consider what the craftsmen were actually doing here in 1160. Where were the quarries that the stone came from? How was it cut, shipped and worked by the craftsmen? Where had the master-craftsmen gained their skills? Who told them what to carve? What was the significance of the images to church-goers of the 12th century?

This event is open for visitors as well as for participants in the Stone-Carving course.

Tickets £10. Numbers limited, please book in advance.
